Healing of Dyslexia
Very early in her schooling, we recognized that our daughter, Monica
Morgan-Dohner, had difficulties learning numbers and letters. She tried
very hard, and we worked with her daily, but no amount of effort
helped. Each day was a struggle for her. Small achievements, such as
learning two letters, would disappear overnight. She received special
helps in every year of school, beginning at age 6.
Dyslexia
is a term that includes many kinds of learning difficulties. Monica
could not recognize symbols – letters and numbers. Her brain “heard”
the ending sounds of a word as the beginning sounds. She could not keep
numbers in rows or columns, so while she was very good at counting, she
could not manage sums on a page. Her eyes could not track,
successfully, from one sentence to the next.
In
February, 1994, her friend, Heather Harvey, who was also dyslexic,
asked for prayer for healing. Heather was part of a group that had
traveled to Toronto, Canada, to the Toronto Airport Christian
Fellowship. As she was prayed for, she became very still. Later, she
told us that she had heard angels, directed by God, doing brain surgery
on her. She felt she had been on a hard table, in a cold room, for this
surgery. At the end, she heard God tell her to pray for her friends.
It
was a 14 hour drive home for us all, and we could tell that something
amazing had changed for Heather. She was playing word games with us,
which she never had been able to do. She was also very focused on her
plan to pray for our daughter, Monica.
Monica
had not heard any of Heather’s story, so it was amazing, again, to hear
her story. Her first words after prayer were, “Mom, I feel like I have
all the pieces to my own puzzle, for the first time!” She told us that
angels had cut her head open (“and it didn’t hurt!”). She reported that
they took her brain out, and worked on a portion of it that was
“dented,” and then she felt the tug of stitches across the top of her
head. She was very impressed with the details and loved repeating them.
The
next day, she burst into the house announcing, “I understood what was
going on at school, today!” As she explained how different the day had
been, we began to understand how terribly confusing every day previous
had been.
Her afternoon tutor – a woman
working on her Masters Degree in Teaching Reading – had just spent
three weeks documenting all the characteristics of dyslexia that Monica
demonstrated. One and a half hours of working with Monica, she told me
that Monica no longer showed any of those characteristics. Monica
didn’t yet read, but for the first time ever, she could learn!
Heather
and Monica immediately began to pray for their other friends with
learning difficulties, and we all saw many miracles. Sometimes, the
people prayed for saw or heard something in the spirit; other times,
they felt nothing at all, but later phoned to say how much easier
reading and writing had become!
Before the
end of the next school year, we were invited to Monica’s school to an
“Author’s Tea.” Monica had volunteered to do a public reading of an
essay that she had written! We cried, and thanked God, for the huge
thing He had done!
Our small church was
contacted by people in many parts of the country, and from many other
countries. We prayed for people over the phone and for everyone who
came. In the years since then, there has been no slowing of healing for
learning difficulties. We have had the joy of hearing many, many
amazing stories – it never stops being exciting to hear that someone is
healed, and no longer struggling!
Our
understanding is that the Lord wants to heal His children, young and
old. We pray for healing of dyslexia and learning difficulties whenever
we have the opportunity.
